AAR Polling

Overview

This tutorial walks through configuring the EFM ABB Totalflow Driver to poll Array-Register (AAR) data from an ABB Totalflow device and expose the data as Ignition OPC tags.

In this tutorial, you will:

  • Connect to an ABB Totalflow device.
  • Enable auto-discovery for Totalflow applications.
  • Create a free-form Array-Register Template for AGA7 applications.
  • Create a Poll Group for the AGA7-1 and SUAGA7-2 applications.
  • Browse the resulting AAR data in Ignition.

Configuration Steps

Install the EFM ABB Totalflow Driver

Install the EFM ABB Totalflow Driver module on the Ignition Gateway. See the Module Installation Guide for instructions to download the latest version of ABB Totalflow.

Create the Device Connection

Do not configure Global Array-Register Definitions for this tutorial.

From the OPC UA > Device Connections page, create a base device connection to the ABB Totalflow unit. Configure the Auto Setup options as shown below.

Enable Application Polling

After the device connection is established and auto-discovery is complete, open the Totalflow Applications panel.

Verify that polling is enabled for the AGA7-1 and SUAGA7-2 applications, as shown below.

Create an Array-Register Template

Navigate to the Array-Register Templates panel. The panel is empty because no global Array-Register Definitions are configured for this tutorial.

Select Add Row to create an Array-Register Template for the AGA7 applications. Set the Totalflow Application to User Defined, as shown below.

5. Add Array-Register Data Points

Select Edit Array-Register Template Content and add the data points to the template. For each data point, specify the Array #, Register #, Access Type, Data Type, Category, and Tag Name. Enable each data point to include it in the poll request.

An example Array-Register Template for AGA7 applications is available for import. The example was created using the PCCU32 application and contains the data points shown below.

You can import the template into the Array-Register Templates panel instead of adding each data point manually.

6. Create a Poll Group

After configuring the Array-Register Template, create a Poll Group for the AGA7 applications.

Navigate to the Poll Groups panel. The panel is empty because no Poll Groups have been configured yet.

Select Add Row to create Poll Group entries for the AGA7-1 and SUAGA7-2 applications.

7. Configure Poll Group Entries

Select Edit Poll Group Content to configure the entries for the AGA7-1 and SUAGA7-2 applications.

Both entries use the same AGA7 Array-Register Template. Select the appropriate application in the Application Name column. Selecting the application automatically populates the Application Slot #.

Enable each Poll Group entry, set the Scan Rate in seconds, and specify the Tag Folder Path.

Save the Poll Group entries, then save the Poll Group itself.

An example Poll Group is available for import into the Poll Groups panel.

8. Browse the AAR Data

After the Poll Group is enabled and polling begins, the configured AAR data points are available as OPC tags.

In the OPC Browser, navigate to the ABB Totalflow device, for example:

Ignition OPC UA Server/Devices/[ABB TF G4 Sim]

Copy the desired OPC tags to the default Ignition Tag Provider.
