Configuration

Configure a Device Connection

After installing the Opto 22 groovEPIC and SNAP PAC Driver, create a device connection to begin reading data from your controller.

  1. In the Ignition Gateway, navigate to Config > OPC UA > Device Connections.
  2. Click Create new Device....
  3. Select Opto 22 groovEPIC and SNAP PAC from the list of available device types.
  4. Configure the device settings as described below.
  5. Click Create New Device to save the configuration.

If the device does not connect, verify the following:

  • The configured IP address matches the controller.
  • The controller is powered on and reachable over the network.
  • The controller has Public variables or I/O points available to report. If no tags are available, start a PAC Control strategy that uses the controller as its control engine.

Once the device is connected, the controller's Public variables and I/O points are automatically available for browsing and use within Ignition.

General Usage

SettingDescription
NameA unique name for the device connection.
DescriptionAn optional description for the device.
EnabledEnables or disables the device connection. Enabled by default.

Opto 22 groov EPIC and SNAP PAC Settings

SettingDescription
AddressThe hostname or IP address of the controller. The default value is 192.168.1.100. Note: Controller redundancy is not supported.
TCP/IP PortThe communication port used to connect to the controller. The default is 22001.
TimeoutThe maximum time, in milliseconds, the driver waits for a response before considering the request unsuccessful. The default is 3000 ms, with a minimum value of 250 ms. Increase this value if the controller is connected over a high-latency or unreliable network.
Data Scan RateThe polling interval, in milliseconds, used to read data from the controller. The default is 1000 ms. Increase the polling interval (use a larger value) when reading a large number of tags to reduce communication load.

Connect with Ignition Scripting

Opto 22 groov EPIC and SNAP PAC device connections can be created and configured using Ignition scripting, using the standard Ignition function system.device.addDevice(). For more information on the function, see the system.device documentation. The device driver type for this module is SnapPacDriver.
