Configure TLP Polling for a Device
Overview
After creating an Emerson ROC device connection, you can configure the TLP definitions, templates, and poll groups used to collect TLP data. This tutorial walks through associating TLP definitions with a device, creating TLP templates, configuring TLP poll groups, and verifying that TLP data is being polled.
Associate TLP Definitions with the Device
TLP definitions determine which TLPs are available for the device. The definitions must be associated with the device before they can be added to TLP templates.
- From the device connection, select More > TLP Definitions.
- The TLP Definitions page displays the definitions currently associated with the device. If Add All TLP Definitions was enabled when the device connection was configured, the list is populated automatically.
- Click Add Row to add a TLP definition.
- Select the global TLP definition to associate with the device.
- Repeat these steps to add all TLP definitions required by the device.
- Click Save.

Create TLP Templates
TLP templates group related TLPs together and are used when configuring TLP poll groups.
- From the device connection, select More > TLP Templates.
- Click Add Row.

- Enter a descriptive name for the TLP template.
- Click Edit TLP Template Contents next to the template name.

- Click Add Row to add a TLP to the template.

-
Configure the following fields for each TLP:
Field Description T The Tparameter of the TLP.P The Pparameter of the TLP.Tag Name The name used for the TLP tag in Ignition. The default value is taken from the Parameter Abbreviation in the global TLP definition CSV file and can be changed here. The following fields are defined by the global TLP definition and cannot be modified from the TLP template:
Field Description Access The access level for the TLP: RO(read-only) orRW(read/write).Data Type The data type of the TLP. Parameter Name The descriptive name of the TLP. Only TLPs from definitions associated with the device are available for selection.
-
Add all TLPs that should be grouped together in the template.
-
Click Save.

- Repeat these steps to create additional TLP templates as needed.
Create TLP Poll Groups
TLP poll groups determine which TLP templates are polled, where the resulting tags are organized in Ignition, and how frequently the data is collected.
- From the device connection, select More > TLP Poll Groups.
- Click Add Row.

- Enter a descriptive name for the poll group.
- Click Edit TLP Poll Group Contents next to the poll group name.

-
Add one or more TLP templates to the poll group and configure the following fields:
Field Description TLP Template Name The TLP template to use for the poll group. Only templates defined for this device are available. Logical Number The Lparameter for the TLP template.Tag Folder Path The folder path where the polled TLP data is represented under the device in the Ignition OPC UA Server. Scan Rate The polling interval, in seconds, for all TLPs in the selected template. -
Click Save to save the TLP poll group.

- Repeat these steps to create additional poll groups as needed.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page to save the device configuration.
Verify TLP Polling
After the poll groups have been saved, the device connection status should change to Polling and the configured TLP tags should be available in Ignition.
