Guide for Linux/Windows

Summary

This guide walks through upgrading Chariot MQTT Server from version 2.0.0 to the latest version.

Due to changes introduced in v2.1.0, this upgrade must be performed in two stages:

  1. Upgrade from v2.0.0 → v2.1.0
  2. Upgrade from v2.1.0 → latest

⚠️ Chariot will be offline during this process (typically < 10 minutes)

Prerequisites

  • Administrative / sudo access
  • Ability to run scripts from the command line
  • Downloaded installation packages for:
    • v2.1.0
    • Target version

Upgrade Process Overview

The upgrade consists of:

  • Exporting data from the existing installation
  • Importing into v2.1.0
  • Creating a backup
  • Installing the latest version
  • Restoring configuration

Linux

Step 1: Upgrade to v2.1.0

  1. Deactivate your license. For reference, see License Management
  2. Stop the service: sudo /etc/init.d/chariot stop
  3. Install v2.1.0 in a new directory (see Installation)

⚠️ Do not overwrite the existing installation

⚠️ Install v2.1.0 only — do not start the service yet

Step 2: Export Data from v2.0.0

  1. sudo cp ./chariotv2.1.0/upgradeExport.sh ./chariotv2.0.0/
  2. cd ./chariotv2.0.0
  3. sudo ./upgradeExport.sh

Step 3: Import into v2.1.0

  1. sudo mv chariot_upgrade_*.tgz ../chariotv2.1.0/
  2. cd ../chariotv2.1.0
  3. sudo ./upgradeImport.sh chariot_upgrade_*.tgz

Step 4: Start and Verify

  1. sudo /etc/init.d/chariot start
  2. Open: http://<server-ip>:8080
  3. Confirm version = 2.1.0

Step 5: Backup Configuration

  1. Navigate to: System → Backup/Restore → Export Backup
  2. Save the .tgz file

Step 6: Upgrade to Latest

⚠️ Do not overwrite the v2.1.0 installation. A directory for each version should exist.

  1. Install the latest version in a new directory (see Installation for Linux), then:
    • Start service
    • Restore backup
    • Reactivate license

Windows

Step 1: Upgrade to v2.1.0

  1. Deactivate your license (see License Management)
  2. Stop the existing Chariot service: serviceStop.bat
  3. Install v2.1.0 in a new directory (see Installation for Windows)

⚠️ Do not overwrite the existing installation.

⚠️ Install v2.1.0 only — do not start the service yet.

Step 2: Export Data from v2.0.0

  1. Copy the export script from the v2.1.0 installation into the v2.0.0 directory: copy D:\chariotv2.1.0\upgradeExport.vbs D:\chariotv2.0.0\
  2. Open a command prompt and change to the v2.0.0 directory.
  3. Run the export script: upgradeExport.vbs

This generates an export package named: chariot_upgrade_YYMMDD_HHMM.zip

Step 3: Import into v2.1.0

  1. Copy the export package into the v2.1.0 directory: copy D:\chariotv2.0.0\chariot_upgrade_*.zip D:\chariotv2.1.0\
  2. Change to the v2.1.0 directory.
  3. Run the import script: upgradeImport.vbs

Step 4: Start and Verify

  1. Start the v2.1.0 service: serviceStart.bat
  2. Clear your browser cache.
  3. Open: http://<server-ip>:8080

Confirm the version is 2.1.0.

Step 5: Backup Configuration

  1. Navigate to: System → Backup/Restore → Export Backup
  2. Save the downloaded backup .zip file.

Step 6: Upgrade to Latest

  1. Stop the v2.1.0 service: serviceStop.bat
  2. Install the latest version in a new directory (see Installation for Windows).

⚠️ Do not overwrite the v2.1.0 installation. A directory for each version should exist.

  1. Start the new service: serviceStart.bat
  2. Clear your browser cache.
  3. Restore the backup:
    • Navigate to: System → Backup/Restore → Restore from Backup
    • Select the previously exported backup .zip file.
    • Verify configuration settings were restored correctly.
  4. If SSL is configured, reload SSL certificates.
  5. Reactivate your license.
